Coppergate Helmet | Enamel Pin

Design
The York, or ‘Coppergate’ helmet as it is sometimes known, is one of six Anglo-Saxon helmets to have survived to the present day. It is remarkably well-preserved and its style is characteristically Northumbrian (one of the four major Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of the time, along with Wessex, Mercia and East Anglia) and is believed to have belonged to a Northumbrian royal prior to the Viking invasion of York in the 9th century.
Anglo-Saxon art is known for its intricate animal motifs; taking inspiration from creatures both real and mythological. Nadine from Nordurljós Art has taken the detailed and complex knotwork patterns featured on the nose guard of the York helmet and crafted them into a wearable form.
