Godmask Pyrography Collaboration

Design

This one of a kind piece was created by Villkat Arts and Paula Cruz Art exclusively for Northern Fire, utilising pyrographic inscription, or controlled woodburning.

Godmasks of the Aesir and Vanir of Norse mythology are found carved in wood, metal, and stone from the Viking Age.

On this plaque, each side features a slightly morphed version of the same god. In Nordic mythology, members of the pantheon are unlike Christian gods, in the sense that they have flaws.

Usually the gods feature a very powerful side as well as a shortcoming. Perhaps it's these two sides, the versatility of the gods, that Paula and Ash are showing in their two variations of this face.

Material & Make

The use of fire to manipulate natural materials is one of the most ancient forms of artistry. Pyrography has been discovered on artefacts globally such as bone, wood, leather, and even stone.

This piece is uniquely one of a kind, having been hand worked by the artisan to compliment the dimension of the design and respect the natural grain of the wood.

It comes with two boards on the back which can have a hook or wire mounted into them for hanging.

This is a heavy duty plaque designed for longevity and durability over many years and lifetimes!

About The Artists

This piece is a collaboration between two of our artists: Villkat Arts and Paula Cruz.

Known as Villkat Arts in his tattoo work, Ash is celebrated globally for his ability to communicate the shamanistic and spiritual components of the ancient world through his artistry. With a focus on Celtic and Nordic symbolism, Ash’s intention and energy shines through in each of his works, creating a connection between the viewer (or wearer) and the depth of meaning within these art styles. The journey of re-discovering his Northern European heritage is part of Ash’s artistic journey and can be seen in his woodwork, pyrography, painting, and tattoo work.

Paula Cruz is a tattoo artist specialising in historic Nordic art styles and is known for her extreme attention to detail and authenticity. Her creations are born of a humble relationship with Norse symbolism and are sharpened through her work as a re-enactor, traditional tattooist, and versatile artisan.

On her Northern Fire page, you’ll find wooden pyrography, prints, and original art by Paula.
