Often interpreted as a horned man, he is famously seen on the Gundestrup cauldron wielding a ram-headed snake in one hand and a torc in the other. This god appears commonly in Celtic and Romano-British artifacts from the Iron Age.

The interpretation of Cernunnos in this painting includes mushrooms alongside the horned god, a part of nature that was potentially used in ancient mind-altering ritual just like it is for humans today.
