Knotwork Nordic Tree (Yggdrasil) | Fine Art Print
Sorry, currently out of stock
Design
This artwork by Paula Cruz Art is a tribute to the great ash tree at the central spire of the Nordic cosmological world, known as Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil is mentioned in Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál (of the Prose Edda), and in Grímnismál and Völuspá (of the Poetic Edda). Some believe that the name of the tree can be translated to something similar to "Odin's Horse." This imagery aligns with the idea that he mounted (hung) himself on the world tree in Hávamál, sacrificing “himself to himself.” There he stayed hanging for nine days and nights until he reached down and found the wisdom that was the runes.
